GROWING GROUNDS HAS A FIELD DAY AT BLACK LAKE A non-traditional group of “green thumbs” from Growing Grounds Farm got in their vans and headed out for a planting field trip at the Land Conservancy’s Black Lake Ecological Area, on the Nipomo Mesa. Why non-traditional? Because these individuals are clients of the Growing Grounds Farm, a program of Transitions Mental Health Association which provides services & employment for dozens of local citizens struggling with a variety of mental health challenges
The day was grey, but not rainy, and over 20 people gathered to plant over 1300 native plant seedlings, helping to restore a home in the coastal dunes for both native plants and animals such as the rare silvery legless lizard (Anniella pulchra pulchra). (A creature without true legs, although it does have eyelids and ears, unlike a snake.) Team planting in action Dirty hands and knees of the planting crew & staff from Growing Grounds Farm on January 30, 2007. Shawn & Sharon look up from planting. | |||||||||||
